My Approach
As a relationship-based pediatric occupational therapist, I celebrate children’s strengths and differences and support them to fully participate in their lives. My goal is to combine your innate wisdom of your child with my knowledge and clinical expertise. Together we will make sense of the connections between challenging behaviors and the state of your child’s nervous system. Through this work, we will foster growth and deeper connection for your family.
Compassion
I approach this work with compassion and respect for your family. I draw from the latest research in neurobiology, child development and sensory integration. I will listen to your concerns to begin to understand your child’s unique strengths and challenges. We will collaborate and individualize consultation to your family’s needs.
Collaboration
My focus is collaboration with parents. In my experience, I have learned that the best way to effect change in children’s behavior is to educate caregivers about nervous system regulation. I believe that providing caregivers with tools and strategies to support and regulate their OWN nervous systems first will help lay the groundwork for real change within the family. When we understand the science behind behaviors we often can find more compassion for our children and ourselves. Children need to feel safe in their nervous systems in order to build skills to play and learn. When we work together, my goal is to build your capacity to navigate challenges while increasing your confidence to parent your child.
Commitment
I practice neurodiversity-affirming therapy. Neurological diversity implies that all brains are different. It is a natural and valuable form of human variation. I am committed to learning from autistic people and centering neurodivergent teachers in the conversation of how to best meet their needs.
